Community, care & early access

Cedar describes itself as a welcoming, inclusive, supportive, respectful and caring learning community, with belonging, connectedness and safety framed as part of the Cedar Family.

The school’s stated goals include authentic literacy opportunities and authentic First Peoples content and role models using the First Peoples Principles of Learning.

SD72 operates licensed before- and after-school care at Cedar. The PAC also actively supports students; in January 2026 it sponsored transition hoodies for the Grade 5 cohort.

ROOTED fit: family-friendly introductory experiences, equipment libraries, bikes, nature observation, photography, simple repair/making and transport-supported community outings—designed as accessible first branches, not competitive specialization.

Research before rebrand

Cedar already has school clothing in circulation, including PAC-sponsored Grade 5 transition hoodies. That is evidence that a schoolwear culture exists—but not enough evidence to declare a mascot, official palette or reusable logo.

ROOTED’s job here is to ask the school what already belongs to Cedar before designing anything new. Existing identity gets preserved; missing identity gets developed with the school, not invented over it.

The school name alone is not evidence of an official visual identity. Until staff or PAC confirms existing marks, mascot identity and school colours, ROOTED will keep any new concept neutral and letter-based rather than inferring imagery from the name.

ROOTED SCHOOL IDENTITY SUPPORT

IDENTITY RESEARCH — KEEP THE BLANK HONEST

Current Cedar / SD72 sources reviewed do not clearly publish a mascot, team nickname or official colour palette. ROOTED will not fill that gap with a guess or copy the Timberwolves identity from the unrelated Cedar Elementary in Nanaimo. The cedar-green page treatment is a ROOTED regional design choice only.

The right next step is school-led: confirm existing marks and apparel identity with staff or PAC first. If there is no established system, ROOTED can develop neutral C or CE letter concepts for review without inventing school colours, mascot imagery, or Indigenous and community symbolism.

ASK ROOTED ABOUT THIS SCHOOL

Current school facts on this page come from official Cedar / SD72 sources and the Government of B.C. school profile. Mascot/team and official colours remain unverified after the current-source review, so ROOTED does not label any proposal as official.
